Passing the New Paperbacks table in Borders Books in the World Trade Center today on my way back to lunch I happened to spot the newly released edition of "Joseph Banks: A Life" by Patrick O'Brian in trade paperback format, published in 1997 by the University of Chicago Press. Here are the particulars:

Joseph Banks: A Life

http://www.press.uchicago.edu/cgi-bin/hfs.cgi/00/13431.ctl

A review of "Joseph Banks: A Life" by Lynda Colley in the New York Times Review of Books from 28 March 1993 can be found at the following URL:

http://search.nytimes.com/books/search/bin/fastweb?getdoc+book-rev+book-rev+1559 1+11++

The review is interesting and lauds O'Brian for his masterful treatment of the ENDEAVOR's voyage. Colley takes the author to task, however, for failing to illuminate adequtely the darker, impersonal and ruthless side of Banks's character.

Cheers,

--
